OK, I'm going to buck the trend and give this a 3 star grade (albeit very late on a Friday night so it won't get much attention as I've planned).

Reasons for the lower than average score:

They need a ramp for wheelchairs and a way to get downstairs, even though they're probably grandfathered in according to the laws.

The two losers in coat-check lost my good cashmere scarf, even though I generously tipped them to safeguard that and my jacket.

The downstairs bar was seriously understaffed for the event even though they knew there was going to be a shit-load of people there that night. They most certainly should have called in reinforcements for the onslaught; all the service crew still would have have made a decent amount of money by the end of the night.

As others have noted, PLEASE  feed us! (Even thought the servers were extremely gracious to all of us ravenous Yelpers.).

The pros:

Was SO fantastic to see all of the Yelpers whom I love so much!!!

Very expansive and comfortable place to party.

Lone upstairs bartender was very together despite having drunk folk barking orders at her continuously all night long.

Free booze (& snacks when you could catch 'em).

In the words of Beavis & Butthead, "Hey asshole, it was free." so I can't really complain, but I work HARD on my Yelp reviews and contributions! Does not "Elite" mean anything?

When I walked in, I felt like i was walking into the East Hampton Country Club. Couches on the left and a bar as soon as you walk in. The only thing missing was an ascot around my neck, a Captain's hat on and a pipe dangling from my mouth.

It sure felt like a yacht club. It felt so much like there was a boat there I thought, for a second, I saw Ginger and Mary Ann standing in the corner. Turned out it was only Jen and Melanie. But I digress....

Many, many big up's to Sam and Russ for all the hard work they put in, and for picking out such a cool place.

PS has anyone had any luck in finding Pedro yet?

Once again, kudos, kudos and more kudos to Sam P. and Russ W. for another AWESOME Yelp Elite extravaganza. Also, a special thank you for making Yelp NY the envy of all the other Yelp cities from what I've been told and as I've learned through the grapevine as I believe that Yelp NY, thanks to our awesome managers, is the edgiest and gayest of all, automatically skyrocketing it to the top spot!!! WOOOT!

I really liked the East Village Yacht Club, and the vodka, even though the drinks were a little pricey once they ran out of the aerated vodka. It's always nice seeing all the gays and the flame dames and all the others. I was sad to learn that Jen D. is moving to San Francisco though, but she has a noble mission, i.e. to gay it up there... HAH! OMG can I just say the hors d'oeuvres were just scrumptious, Billy A. and I couldn't get enough of them.  I'm taking one star off though because they closed the coat check early, which was rather annoying, since it was barely 8 PM.

SOOOOO,
It turns out, I'm not so hot. ((OR the vote was rigged. WHAT? what?? I can tell myself that.))

But this event was!! Once again - the most awesomest boys of yelp found a most awesomest place to party.

I would have loved it one star more if:  1) there were more food thingys or 2) some people didn't hog them. HEY, it's no idle assumption...it's been posted that there were yelpers hounding the kitchen area and snagging the calories that shoulda been mine!

I love how friendly and welcoming yelpers are. Great to meet new people :)
And more and more wonderful each time, seeing the regulars :D

As always, an excellent turnout of amazing people; the sheer number of great people Yelp attracts never ceases to impress me. I got to chat with old friends and meet some new ones, and their +-whatevers.

This event never became as jubilantly insane as the Holiday 07 party did, but I think that was in part due to the fact that the free alcohol RAN OUT quite early on - wtf? I had heard that there would be apps, but these were nowhere to be found...very very sparse indeed and such a shame, as the one I tried (mozzarella, tomato, on mini toast) was tasty.

To maintain an appropriately high BAC I began swiping forgotten drinks, mixing them and chugging them down - it was very unladlylike. Overall, the drinks at this place did not impress, though the Chamitz sparkling vodka was a cool idea and I enjoyed talking to the distributor.

If it weren't for the overwhelming awesomeness of Yelpers in general and Sam and Russ for their great efforts, I'd almost be tempted to knock this event down to 3 stars, because I DO NOT COMPREHEND how any of the female nominees could possibly be considered 'hotter' than Victoria H. , and such an oversight makes me want to get violent. No offense to the other nominees....but few can compare to the lovely - in both person and personality - Victoria. Shame on you, voters!

-GASP!!!-  He dared to hold back the fifth star for an elite event!  What a pariah!!  What an ingrate!  What a bad, bad man!  He really IS snarky!

Did you know that the fifth star begins with the letter "F"?  You know what else begins with the letter F?:

FOOD

;-)

Other than that, no complaints.  Fun seeing everyone.  Too bad I missed out on all of the hot +1-on-+1 action though.

Great event. Carbonated Vodka - WTF!!! How have we survived all these years as a society without bubbly vodka!! Just one more reason the USA kicked the Russkies asses - actually Camitz is from Sweden I think - but who cares, the Russkies didn't think of it and now there's Starbucks in Red Square. Upstairs at EVYC was comfortable and chill and the burger they brought me was 100% juicy goodness.

Thanks to Yelp, EVYC and Camitz Vodka.

Dug the venue and the Yelpers I found there!

I am truly honored to be sharing the "title" with such a luminary as Srini. To be honest, I feel as though even to be nominated put me into such amazingly elite company that I'm rather overwhelmed at the very thought. The nod was a shocker already, so to emerge as one of the top vote-getters seriously SERIOUSLY astounds me. Thanks, everyone!

My congratulations also go to Jen, Rod, and Julie for being seriously hot, funny, and cool in my books. :) I leave you to decide who goes into which category...

As always, SUCH a pleasure to see some of the regulars (Rob, Tina, Jen, Rod, Arnab, Miguel, Yosh, Atif, Norm, Julia, Rocky, Julia, Sean, Tom, Adrian, Drew, and the list goes ON AND ON) and 'twas a blast to match some new faces with the tiny 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm profile pic that I normally see of you (Jonathan, Amy, Mel, and more!). The venue was great (warm and cozy, but not in a "my-grandma-lives-here sense"), the bars were a little under-tended (one bartender for upstairs???), and the company was FABULOUS. It amazes me to think that I knew NONE of you people (well, almost none) a short year ago. Major MAJOR thanks to NY Yelp for making NYC not a scary place to be... :)

Additional snaps *snap snap* to Sam and Russ for putting on a groovy shindig. You two rock, AND YOU KNOW THIS. :) *mwah!*

Cheers to Sam & Russ for throwing an amazing party!

It was so nice to meet everyone in person! The apps were extremely tasty (I admit I followed the slider tray out when I saw it) ,the sparkling vodka was a nice treat and the East Village Yacht Club was a very nice space.

Can't wait to see you all again soon!

This event was awesome!!! The East Village Yacht Club is so cute and very spacious... Lots of plush couches and tables... The bartenders were super nice and cute!!

Thanks to everyone who voted for me!! :) I'm very sad to be leaving all the hot NY Yelpers... But as Arnab said... I'm going over to San Francisco and I am going to attempt to start a UOYGN (Unofficial Yelp Gay Night) there... Wish me luck!

I'm sad that I didn't get to make out with any hottie gay guys tonight.. I mean.. Well, I kinda made out with Russ.. But only for a nano second.. But it was soooooooo worth it...

Thanks Russ and Sam for another great event!!!

My First Yelp Event and also First Yelp Elite Event.
Very impressed by the turnout.

The East Village Yacht Club was very nice and bigger than it looked from the entrance.

Well organized event, kudos to Sam P. and the rest of the Yelp organizers.

Shout out and thanks to Peter Pedro K. for making feel welcomed.  Shout out also to Steve D., Nik T., Bacon, Jen D. and Lainy C., nice to meet you.

And finally congrats to Jen D., Rod A., Julie K., Srini V and Audry J.

Looking forward to attending future Yelp/Yelp Elite events.

Recommended for:  Partying with Yelp Eliters.

Ooooooh Factor 5, Awesomeness 5.

Who doesn't like a party thrown by the dynamic duo of the Mayor and Guvnuh?  Venue was cool - chic, dark, vibrant and packed!  Two levels of awesomeness with cool people at every turn.  There were SO many faces that I have never seen that I didn't really know who was who.  Great meeting a lot of you, and always a pleasure to run into the usual crew - you guys rock!

Minus 1 star for getting there after the drinks and food were gone *le sigh*, but I was on duty that night; ensuring that the sake of democracy was preserved and that we did not have our own little "Ohio" or "Florida".

Thanks for the great times and look forward to the next one!

Congrats to the victors, kudos to the host, and an applause to the powers that be who put the whole thing together.

The venue was a great choice, seeing how yelp is growing. Upstairs was really comfy and intimate, while downstairs was spacious and hot (in more ways than one).  It was, as always, great seeing the old faces, and meeting so many new ones. I think I speak for all in saying you guys rock! Sam, Russ, and each and everyone of you made this an awesome gathering.  SYOY!

From what I remember I had a great time. My plus one and I got carried away tasting, actually guzzling down the sparkling vodka so we probably didn't talk to as many people as I would have liked to, mostly just the people coming up to the bar, but everyone we met was fantastic!
Next time I won't be such a lush and I'll be more social. I'm shy so I thought the drinks would help.
Oooh, I had two of those mini burgers and they were delicious! Wish I had one now.

Great time.  This was only my second Yelp event and I continue to be impressed by how friendly everyone is.   Special thanks to Neerja (I think her name is Neerja??) who saw  me wandering around aimlessly looking for a familiar face and feeling kind of shy.  She grabbed me, introduced herself and put my right at ease.

The venue was also cool..lots of nooks and crannies to settle into.  I'm only knocking off a star because the bartenders weren't as speedy as I'm accustomed to in NYC.

Congrats to all of the hot, funny, cool and talented Yelpers.  Big thanks to Sam and Russ and all of Yelp for a wonderful time.

Thanks Yelp, Sam, and Russ for the party!

The drinks were effin strong - I couldn't even sip the mint one down.  Why did it taste like mouth wash?  It was NOT good at all.....

I blame the drinks for making me anti-social and too caught up with my +1 to socialize.  But for the people who put in the effort ----always a pleasure.

My +1 and I ended up chilling with my favorite cuties - Joy C. and Lainy C.  A brief moment with Miguel D. - Adorable as hells!

I finally met Rocky P. - a fan of his funny reviews!  Julia O. and him are the only two NEW people that I met that night along with Miguel's +1 and exchanged digits with his +1.

I wish I was more sociable but alcohol does weird things to me - apparently this sparkling vodka made me NON-Sparkly!  It made even too lazy to vote.  But I used the sticker and distributed amongst our own party 4.

Congrats to Rod A., Julie K., and Srini V.

My first Elite event! It was great fun, but such a whirlpool of faces. I really wish I had recognized/been able to read more name-tags/introduced myself to more people. After reading the reviews of so many people I wanted to meet, but not even realizing they were there, I'm pretty sad.

The EVYC was very cool and conducively laid out for the amount of people we had. I loved the decor and the furniture.

Reduntantly, I'll point out that I'm only subtracting one star because of the missing food. About an hour into the event, I was so lightheaded from my first drink, I went hunting for a tray of anything edible. I'd see people chewing and I smelled the burgers, but there was no food in sight! Finally, while I was waiting outside of the bathroom (which was teeny) a fresh tray of food came out and I lunged! I had 2 sliders all night and that was it. I never got to try the ceviche that was rumored to be going around.

Seriously though, besides the missing food (which I wouldn't have missed if I didn't smell/see evidence of it), this was an awesome party.

Next time I'm introducing myself to EVERYONE.

What a fun spot! Love how you're walking along East 1st thinking surely nothing's here, and lo-and-behold, a sign for the EV Yacht Club appears. Didn't see it coming.

The upstairs was nice, but what I really liked was the downstairs. In the midst of winter, love a venue where you can escape that draft of that inevitable whole door opening and closing thing. I liked how they decorated in theme but not obnoxiously. Very cool.

Loved the Camitz Vodka (thanks Sam for putting the name here since even though it was spelled to me last night - yeah, sadly, forgotten) and the sliders. BIG fan of the sliders.

It was a great venue to meet lots of fun new faces! I wish it was a liiiiittle brighter so I could have perhaps found many of the other people I was trying (FAIL!) to meet up with last night, but thus goes bars I suppose.

Fun spot -- good pick Sam and Russ! Thanks for organizing such a great event. And after a late night, I was quite happy to bust out the YELP STICK this morning. Armed and dangerous for winter now am I...

I had a bowl of a 99 cent Shin Ramen pack today because I'm now saving up to buy myself a yacht.  Of course, I have to credit Yelp for helping me to realize this critical goal in my life.

Oh, I should mention that Yelp did it with style: free booze, appetizers, gear, and fellow Yelpers.

When I signed up, I had no idea Yelp would end up being such a tremendously productive influence in my life: I'm gonna get myself a yacht!

Thank you Yelp!

"You guys, you guys, I have a great idea."
"What, you finally have the solution to end world hunger?"
"Almost."
"What?? How?"
"I'm going to put this bubbly-ness of champagne and mix it with the awesomeness of vodka."
"You... are... a genius."
"I know, you guys. World hunger, take that!"

Raspberry cocktail: delicious!
Apple cocktail: Jolly Rancher!
Mint cocktail: toothpaste!
$11 shots after the drinks ran out: AWESOME!

Congratulations to Audrey (YAY AREA REPRESENT! HELLA HOLLA!), Jen (I'm going to miss youuuuuuuu), Roderick (HA! I told you!) and Julie (too cool for school!).

Events like this make me heart Yelp so much more than I already do.

I had such a fabulous time.  Everyone was so friendly, and in spite of all the sparkling vodka I guzzled, this was truly an unforgettable evening!  I wish I had an opportunity to talk to more people; i'll definitely be attending more Yelp events in the future.

I also wish I could've gotten my greedy fingers on some more grub!  Damn I  was hungry!! I ended up feeding the liquor w/Popeye's afterwards which was good, but nothing like those mozzarella hors d'oeuvres!!

I liked the East Village Yacht Club.  Upstairs was cozy, and the downstairs was huge.  It's very well decorated and has plenty of seating which I LOVE.

Thanks to Sam & Russ for making this possible!

Considering I knew nobody there but my +1 (Joe Z.) and Tempest, I had a great time (especially after a few drinks). I wish I had met and talked to/befriended more people than I did, but it was my first event after all. I'm just amazed at how NICE everyone was. Kudos to Yelp for collecting such fantastic people all in one place!

The venue was awesome, though I'm still not quite sure what a yacht club is doing inland. Nice rooms though, and the bartenders rocked. Oh, and the Camitz sparkling (FREE) vodka was pretty sweet too. Well, until they ran out downstairs. I don't know how many of you spoke to Dave (the importer guy), but the stuff's only been in this country a week, and WE got the first big taste of it. Go us!

I really liked the place this was hosted at. It was really lovely and reminded me of my time at sea before I landed on Hollywood's shores. Anyway, there were some problems: open bar ended at what, 8:30? Also the bartender upstairs was the slowest person I have ever met. Sorry, but true. However, can't complain too much when a yelp event comes around because it's always a good time. I'll probably try to go back and check out the place again. Thanks for pointing it out for me, Yelp.

Awesome night of fun and games. I had a lot of fizzy vodka and yelled at enough yelpers to really make the next Yelp event awkward.

"THE ELECTION RESULTS ARE HAPPENING IN THE OTHER ROOM PEOPLE! LET'S MOVE THIS PARTY OVER!"

Props to all the Yelp staff for keeping their shit together. If only I could've gotten a mini slider! But alas I was in the wrong end of the room. Serves me right for setting up shop in the corner. I'll be back pronto.

Awesome event. This was my first Yelp Elite event. I didn't meet as many people as I would have liked because I was trying to take care of my guests who I'm trying to recruit to become more active Yelpers. :) They were definitely impressed by the party though and said they'd start Yelping.

I have to be honest and admit that I was one of the group of people sitting near the kitchen door and got first dibs on the food. But honestly--I didn't intend to do this!!! My friends and I got to the party early and noticed the only free couches were the ones on the way to the bathroom. I think people were avoiding them because of that. But then when the food started coming out, we quickly realized the strategic advantage we had, despite our proximity to the restrooms. And when some dude offers you food, how can you turn that down??? So there--it's *your* fault that you didn't grab these couches before you knew they'd be the prime spot for getting food! :p Next time, I will remember to eat dinner beforehand because I know I won't be as lucky. Thanks everyone for a great party.

Thanks to Russ and Sam for a great event and kick-ass venue!

Considering I got there after 9pm and as the crowds were clearing out, it was still a great time.  I was amazed at how comfortably chic the interior is from the unassumingly plain exterior of this place!  I'm definitely coming back to check out the food and cocktails here!

Congrats to the winners!

Top Notch job Sam & Russ.  Great locale, beautiful people, and overall fun event.  Plus, there was not a single bad spot to hang out in the whole place.  Who knew such a cool place existed in manhattan?  Muchos kudos to the coordinators!

The free drinks were overly sweet, rendering a hangover. The appetizers were appropriately salty.

Otherwise, I enjoyed listening to some of the big dogs yelping tete-a-tete.  One guy who really liked the word 'sick' told me some bars to check out. I forgot all but one of these bars' names, and the one I remembered doesn't appear to be open anymore.

I definitely plan to attend the next event, once again as a +1.

Great time and an awesome venue!!!  Plus, that sparkling Swedish vodka was really quite enjoyable.  A little too enjoyable, hahahahaha!

Great event!!  Thank you so much to Sam and Russ for putting on such a great one!

In the future though, I propose some new Yelp Elite self-imposed standards.  You should either:
a) Eat before you come to the event
b) Have some shame in hogging all the hors d'oeuvres by STANDING BY THE KITCHEN EXIT AND GRABBING ALL THE FOOD YOU CAN HOLD

If we can all agree to these simple rules of basic decency, I will have no shame in calling out that one girl out who was double-fisting sliders gleefully while the rest of the party went starving.  I swear I saw them taping a "Feed the World" commercial in the basement there. ("For only pennies a day... you can buy a Yelp Eliter a mini slider...")

But all in all, I had a lot of fun :-)

From my personal, intimate perspective, I had an extremely fun, excessive, brutal time eating halal food (lamb over rice, and then I saw they made french fries, good ones, so I thought I haven't had Wendy's fries in a while, let's do that) while watching U.S. Marshals at 1:30 in the AM.
Wait.
I will describe to you how I was eating it. I was laying on my side, on the futon. I dragged the coffee table so that the end was practically on the futon. This is to prevent any food from dropping, you know, on the floor. I probably would have eaten it anyway if it did. Since I was on my side, I put two pillows under my left ear so that I could eat without choking. And I passed out with 3 bites left, and Wesley Snipes just went medieval on Tommy Lee's bulletproof vest. My roommate woke me up. My pants were off, my hands were down my boxers, and there were still those 3 bites left. I finished it after my roommate asked, "are you going to finish it". Then I passed out again for another hour.

Thanks a lot Yelp Elite Event.

Oh the event? It was good. Like I stated earlier, there was sucking face between my plus one and another plus one. That equals 2 when you put them together. Duh. I kept making idiotic jokes when in groups like "plus one, and you're a plus one, plus one...that might equal an elite, I dunno".
I also screamed out, when Jen won Hottest Yelper, "AND SHE'S A GOOD PERSON TOO, NOT JUST HOT".
I almost was about to debate beer with Lara "anti-beer". But I decided against that.
I double fisted for five rounds, realizing that the plastic cups were most ideal for holding two in one hand. The glasses not so much. Two cups one dude. Yes I just made a reference to that.
I had the asshole-ness in me to order a martini and a couple beers after all this. That one slider I had helped; if I didn't have that and a spoonful of sugar-I mean mango shrimp salad, vomitos? Sometimes it's all you need, the thin line between functional drunk and functional regurgitation.

The space was pretty amazing though; the staff was a bit snobby at times, but that's probably because I was so awesome. Awesomely drunk. I enjoyed that there were more plus ones than Yelpers, it got fresher than Glade Plug-ins. The orange scented ones. If there are orange scented ones. I met a lot more people here than in previous incarnations, like actually met. I remember all of it, but the list is so long, I'll just say "it was so nice to meet you last night". If I did meet you, just picture me saying that in person with my suspenders on, OR, picture me sending a compliment regarding that subject, OR, imagine a compliment being sent (you know, "You have a new compliment!" Victor L. has sent you a compliment, click here to see it https://yelpathapfiodn".

Oh I forgot to mention: I fell asleep three times on the subway. I was waiting with my halal food, cursing at the D train for not coming in 8 seconds, and finally when I got on a Broadway-Lafayette, the following occurred: I fell asleep within one stop, before I even hit Grand Street. Woke up at a stop, turned around quick and saw it was Atlantic Pacific, so I dozed off again. Woke up at 25th street, dozed off before the next stop, 36th. Woke up when we stopped at 36th, waited on the platform to transfer to the N, which did come in 8 seconds (that's what she said....I know totally unnecessary right?) and I fell asleep before 45th but woke up for 53rd. It felt like that fade out part of Fight Club where he's on the mattress and picture just fades in and out. But Tyler Durden wasn't talking to me. It was some lady. And she was talking to her friend.

"Should I place the name tag on my chest? No, that's too easy to see. On my thigh? No, that's too hard to find. I've got it, I'll place it on my shoulder, sort of like an old school pack of Camels." My self-imposed sobriety was really making a mess out of my social life. Here I was at my first Yelp elite event and I couldn't even have a drink. I recruited my friend Henry and informed him that he was drinking for two. It's a good thing the open bar consisted of some sort of sparkling vodka, because Thursday morning might have had a whole different feel if it had been bourbon.
In any event, I have to say I was slightly disappointed with the decisions the management at the East Village Yacht Club made with the space. I remember when that was a bar called Chez Esada. It was one of the sexier rooms in the neighbor
