Stromboli is a crappy, run down hole in the wall that serves a delicious slice of pizza. The sauce is sweet and poured onto the pizza :) The crust is pleasantly thick, and the cheese is yummy. Make sure you go during a busy time or just get a plain slice, as sometimes the pizza can sit around for a while.

Quality: I paid for a fresh pepperoni pizza and the quality was poor.  I liked their sauce and the sweet crust, but it seemed as though they were using a cheap, frozen, shredded mozzarella cheese.  I could see that some parts of the cheese were not completely melted.  I was told from a friend (former pizzeria owner) that if you find shredded mozzarella cheese that are not completely melted in your pizza, "they are using frozen shredded mozzarella cheese~"

Quantity: a good big slice.

Service: the guy was talking on the phone~

Overall:  +1 star for quality, +1 star for quantity, +0 star for service = +2 star.

Oh, the place is kinda dirty~

Damn good pizza, better get it to go however since the place is tiny as hell. (As many places are in the city). Great slices with nice crisp crust and perfect mix of cheese and sauce that is making my mouth water just writing about it. Very friendly and speedy counter-service. If you are in the area try a slice you will not  be disappointed by any means.

I always try to write something meaningful about the restaurants I review, but with Pizza that's kind of hard. Tips like, "Hey they got this stuff called pepperoni you can get on it, wowsa!" or "what kind of crazy cheese is this? They call it mozzarella, more like Barberalla! It's out of this world!" would seem kind of redundant and forced.

So I'll leave you with this anecdote. I visit this pizzeria after the gym and I eat a lot - basically undoing all the heavy lifting, tread milling, and jump roping I have just done. I do it every week. I don't regret a single slice.

Less frequented than its St Marks sibling, Stromboli's University Place location offers a good selection of pizza and rolls (chicken, sausage, etc.).

I've tried the cheese and tomato/onion/garlic slices.  I liked the balance on the cheese slice - not too much cheese, could taste the sauce - and the tomato sauce had a nice, sweet taste.  I found the cheese to be just so-so and the crust was run of the mill.  The tomato/onion/garlic slice was near inedible - just too much of the onion/garlic.

I imagine this would be a 4 star slice if you're drunk but you could say that for every slice....plus, i came for lunch and i've found staying sober during the workday is a boon for productivity....

Andrew's know their pizza. This is probably the best pizza I have ever had. I went randomly. And, I had to go back the next day. The cheese is creamy and tasty. The sauce is affected, just the way I like it -- rich tangy and flavorful. The cheese-sauce quotient was just right! The crust was the perfect level of crisp. WOWZERS. If these people opened up in CA, there would be a revolution. Nothing to change -- two bucks of heaven.

I live RIGHT near Stromboli's and felt disgraced as a Yelper that I had yet to visit it. I was expecting true greatness which is perhaps why I was a bit let down.
So I am aware that pizza needs a little bit of grease on it, but a line was crossed here. When I lifted my plain slice in order to do my fold maneuver, the cheese started sliding off the slice. Four oil-saturated napkins later, I was ready to try again. I still didn't like the way in which the sauce and cheese were distributed on the slice.  The sauce was highly concentrated in some areas of the crust, while other crust surfaces did not have the slightest bit of sauce. The cheese showed no evidence of golden-brown oven goodness...the mozzarella was good, but needed some burn bubbles on it for my liking.
What I did enjoy was the sauce. It had a great tang to it, a sweetness and a spice, and I liked it quite a bit. I also liked the density of the crust--substantial but not too thick, simultaneously crunchy and doughy.
The space is claustraphobic and hot, but I genreally do not note my surroundings while inhaling pizza.

This is the best pizza in the entire world. It's true!! While attending school at NYU, I tried all the famous Ray's, the John's, the Lombardi's, all that nonsense, and this place trumps them all.

The secret is the sauce. It's just flat out the most flavorful pizza sauce you will ever try and makes this place BEST EVER.
